Biographical Info

Francis studied Er-Hu at the age 7 in Hong Kong and won The Hong Kong Music Festival Er-Hu Solo Champion (1983); Chinese Ensemble Champion (1984); Hong Kong Young Chinese Instrumentalist Award 1st runner-up (1984). He graduated from Hong Kong Baptist University with a Bachelor (Honours) of Music (1992). During the university years, he studied under renowned Er-Hu Professor Wang Guo Tong王国潼, Er-Hu Master Wong On-yuen黃安源, and Tang Liang-De汤良德.

Francis was Chaiman and Concert Master – Ontario Cross-Cultural Music Society Chinese Instrumental Orchestra, OCMS-CIO (2000-2005). He teaches Er-Hu students of all levels, ages with music styles from traditional; pop and Central Conservatory of Music of China- CCMC Graded 1-9.

Francis graduated from Hong Kong Baptist University with a Bachelor of Music (Honours) degree in Guitar performance and Composition. In 1991, he joined TVB Hong Kong Television Broadcasts Ltd as a Musical Director (1991-1995), composed and arranged music theme songs and underscores for TV productions and drama episode series. Additionally, he has collaborated with various renowned singers including Faye Wong, Leon Lai, Walkin Chau, Christopher Wong, Sammi Cheng, Hacken Lee, Shirley Kwan, Grasshopper, and Vivian Lai.

In addition to his extensive involvement in the music industry, Francis is an experienced teacher. His students have won RCM Regional Silver Medals and many of his students have successfully admitted to music college programs majoring in Guitar performance including the University of Toronto and Humber College.
