Francis studied classical and electric guitar at the age 6 in Hong Kong and won the Hong Kong Music Festival Classical Guitar Champion in 1984. He graduated from Hong Kong Baptist University with Bachelor (Hons) of Music (Major in Composition / Guitar) in 1992.

Francis joined TVB Hong Kong Television Broadcasts Ltd as Musical Director (1991 – 1995), composed and arranged music theme songs and underscore for TV productions / drama episode series. Additionally, he has collaborated with various renowned singers including Faye Wong, Leon Lai, Walkin Chau, Christopher Wong, Sammi Cheng, Hacken Lee, Shirley Kwan, Grasshopper, and Vivian Lai.

Francis is dedicated to music education. In Toronto, he was appointed by RCM to give official review and comment for the launch of RCM Guitar Syllabus (2004&2011) – Gr 1-8 Repertoire and Studies Album. He also participated in Music Technology Research Project held by RCM at Queen’s University and Concordia University. His students won RCM Regional Silver Medals in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Many of them had successfully admitted to Music College programs majoring in Guitar performance (with full scholarships), including University of Toronto and Humber College.

2005 – Student received Gr.5 RCM Silver Medal in guitar for the highest exam grade in Ontario
2006 – Student received Gr.6 RCM Silver Medal in guitar for the highest exam grade in Ontario
2007 – Student received Gr.7 RCM Silver Medal in guitar for the highest exam grade in Ontario
